We are very pleased to be able to add Windcrest Gidget to our herd. She belonged to Ed & Linda Trimnell and was one of Linda's two favorite donkeys that she sold the very last when she was dispersing her herd. Gidget is best friends with Junebug who we also have now. Gidget and Junebug have a forever home here at Half Ass Acres. Gidget had the very first Napoleon sired foal, a black no light points jennet named Voilà.

Before becoming a brood jennet, Gidget had a great yearling year as a show donkey. She won the following awards:

  • 6/10/00 ~ Madison County Fair ~ Halter Yearlings ~ 3rd Place
  • 6/25/00 ~ Clermont County Show ~ Halter Yearlings ~ 2nd Place
  • 7/23/00 ~ By-Gone Days Show ~ Halter Yearlings ~ 2nd Place

Bow was born on her mom's birthday...no wonder she is the spittin' image of her...but even better. She was expertly delivered by Julia and Rhonda Vaughn while they were house-sitting for us when we were away attending Wayne Lyon's Driving Seminar in Texas. Shazam has an extremely wide chest and rear, has a gorgeous head, and a beautiful set of legs. This great little donkey was trained and shown by Kathy Loudamy at K&K Ranch. Shazam hated to be body clipped so her show careeer ended early. The two times she was shown by Kathy she placed third in NMDA Foals at Halter class at the 2005 Dallas State Fair out of a class of fourteen and was again 3rd in a huge foal class at the 2006 Houston Livestock Show. Shazam was bred and raised by Frank and Mary Williams. She has been bred to our dark spotted herd sire, Napoleon. Her first foal should be due July 19th, 2009. The photos above were taken of Shazam straight out of the pasture on October 29th, 2008.

She is so dark brown that she almost looks black and white and she has a perfect spot pattern. She is stocky and correct and has everything we look for in a jennet. We purchased Summer from Wit's End Farm along with her best friend and half-sister, Strawberry. These jennets have never been separated. We love this jennet also and can't decide which one we like better! In fact they look so much alike that I had them confused with one another for over a year before I figured it out from carefully comparing their photos I had taken of them over the years!

    Summer is the dam of the following foals:

    1) Windcrest Sunrise Melody, 4/24/02, a dark red jennet;
    2) Wit's End Win One for the Gipper, 6/08/04, a dark red jack;
    3) Wit's End Spring Fever, 4/10/07, a dark red jennet;
    4) HHAA Apple of My Eye
    Apple of My Eye, aka Eve9/07/08, dark red jennet.
    Summer will be allowed to rest after her new foal is weaned and will not have another foal until 2010.

Photos above were taken one day after foaling in September 2008.

    Strawberry is our most popular jennet because when she brays she sings like an Opera singer. Everyone wants to hear her bray. We purchased Strawberry from Wit's End Farm. We are so very pleased with this jennet. She is a dark cherry red with near flawless conformation. She and her sister look so much alike that I had them mixed up for an entire year before I finally realized it!

    Strawberry is the dam of the following foals:

    1) Windcrest Sweet Harmony, a dark red jennet foaled in 2002;
    2) Wit's End Appalachian Foxfire, 6/20/04, dark cherry red gelding;
    3) Wit's End Home-Run, 8/04/05, dark red gelding;
    4) Wit's End Kurb Appeal, 9/20/06, dark red gelding;
    5) HHAA 'Atta' Boy,
    9/23/08, dark red jack w/star.

    Strawberry has been bred to Windcrest Firefly for an October 13th, 2008 foal. This will be our first foal out of Strawberry since purchasing her in the spring of 2007. Update! Strawberry foaled a dark red jack with a star on 9/23/08 @ 10:35am. Strawberry will be allowed to rest after Adam is weaned. She will not have another foal until 2010.

    Sophia is a donkey we purchased from Turnpike Creek Farm. We were very excited to add Sophia to our breeding program and she has not disappointed us. When she is shed off in summer you can clearly see her large 'Indian Head' star on her forehead.

    Sophia is the dam of the following foals:
